Bush Dasies And Landscaping

I love bush daisy plants and I am going to tell you why whether you want to know or not. Actually, if this is the first you’ve heard of them, I am doing you a favor!  Seriously, though, for a big blast of vibrant yellow color that will last all summer long, euryops (bush daisy “bushes”) are certainly in the list of top ten garden favorites (mine at least).
See if you disagree.  Firstly, they are easy to transplant, grow and maintain (once they are established).  I have not found a pest that likes them, so they require no spraying.  Other than a handful of compost tossed into the hole at the time of transplanting from a retailer’s pot, they seem to get everything they need from average garden soil., provided it is well drained and the plants are planted in full sun.  Once bush daisies have been thoroughly watered in during the first two weeks after transplanting, they will quickly establish themselves and over the course of a few months can become actually drought-resistent.
Their beautiful bright yellow starry blooms cover the rounded head of the entire plant making it look as if someone tirelessly declorated it with evenly,  uniformly placed flowers.  When massed in quantities of three or more, they are an electrifying presence in any landscape and become a theme unto themselves.
Bush daisies are tough and can  survives all but the most extreme warm weather conditions including moderate drought.  However,  bush daisies are not all that winter hardy except in very temperate regions . Even so, they are pretty easily propagated with stem cuttings which can be wintered-over inside.
Bush daisies will thrive in containers too and are a lovely accent plant for patio, deck or pool-side.  But remember that if you keep bush daisies in containers,  as with all containerized plants, they will require regular, more frequent watering, particularly in hot weather.  The way I test for their “thirstiness” is to stick my indix finger into the outer rim of the soil about an inch deep. If the soil is dry at that level, bush daisies need a good soak and a shower.  Yes, don’t forget to shower the foliage of containerized plants, if you want them to look their best.
Finally, bush daisies are easy to obtain.  They are widely available at good nurseries and garden centers every spring and summer and are moderately priced.
